Dana AD5VC, Wayne K5DF , David K5DFD, N5IB Jim, Jerry W5AJD and David W5XU will be active with the call W5GIXfrom Grand Isle, Louisiana State East (St Bernard Parish) group (IOTA Na-089) January 6th through 8th, 2012.
W5GIX is the call of the former Dr. Stan Preston, a founding member of the Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club, Inc., ARRL affiliated club.
When Dr. Preston died, his family gave permission to the Club to remember him by using his call for the club station. In addition, the club annually awards the “Stan Preston Award” to an amateur who has demonstrated the best virtues of a good Samaritan while operating an amateur station.
Activity will be from 80 through 10 meters on CW, SSB and digital modes, with a possible presence on 6 meters if conditions allow.
