Something is happening in North Korea as far as the never ending radio silence is concerned. We have to be cautiously optimistic though, as the project is still in its early stages.
Rick, K6VVA, has been in touch with the North-korean authorities for the last 6 years. He has been working with two NGOs committed to humanitarian work. Besides this, Rick is also trying hard to obtain a radio license and set up a little one-man Dxpedition of four days, CW only.
It seems that humanitarian and radio aspects are going hand in hand: in other words it will be possible to get a license only if a certain amount of money can be granted to those NGOs. With this consideration, Rick now needs to know how much money the ham radio community can afford to pay to support this cause. Rick is also stressing that this money won’t go to him, that the expedition costs will be entirely paid by him and that he is not asking for any amount of money at this stage. He just wants to know much money hams are willing to pay.
In the long term, Rick is also trying to pave the way for a future large scale Dxpedition with several operators, hopefully from the various IOTA references that have never been activated.
