QSL de RAE

12 Aug 2011 / 0 Comments / in Spectrum obsessions/by IX1CKN

QSL RAE
In the first days of my Pappradio tests, last april, among others interesting receptions I had Radiodifusion Argentina al Exterior on 11710 kHz. I had already confirmed RAE, but on 15345 kHz, for the italian programme. Never managed to QSL the station on its 25 meters band channel. So, I did a bit of detective work. After the sad news of Ivan Gabriel Barrera (their historical QSL manager, and estimated DXer) passing away prematurely, I remember I've read about someone else now taking care of such duties. I dug out that news alert from the Internet and there I was: you can send reports to dxrae2010@gmail.com. That's what I did and, in ten days, Mirta Cánepa, of station's Portuguese Section, wrote me a very kind message, along with the above e-qsl. Highly appreciated. Thanks, Mirta!

Grand Popo calling

12 Aug 2011 / 0 Comments / in Spectrum obsessions/by IX1CKN

After ST0R and ZD8D, the most sought after stations of the whole spectrum in the last ten days, there is another bunch of guys engaged in a DXpedition that deserves your attention. It's TY1KS, from Grand Popo, Benin. I have them in my heart, as it's a radio adventure sponsored by DXCoffee, the webmagazine I often borrow my pen to, and the team features some of the writers of the site (including Giorgio, IZ4AKS). It's a beautiful example of how a modern DX attitude can not only told by fresh and interesting stories, but also by contributing directly to the growth of our hobby. The lads have shown a very good signal on 15 and 12 meters so far (with an unexpected opening in 6 meters to Europe, as told on the official site of the Dxpedition), and in the below clip they're recorded yesterday night, at 21.47 UTC, on 14269 kHz. As you'll hear, they were simply blasting. So, you've some more days to secure yourself another ham radio thrill of summer 2011. TY1KS will last until Monday 15th August. If you're on the log for ST0R and ZD8D, what are you waiting to run for three of a kind?
