QSL de 1Africa
Good things come for those who wait. So, being patient day after day, today postmaster delivered a brown envelope from South Africa. It contained a QSL letter from 1Africa, the CVC Media station broadcasting from Lusaka, sometimes referred as “The Voice Zambia”. The sheet confirms my 2nd February 2011 reception on 4965 kHz, at 22.31 UTC. The letter, coming on paper indicating the CVC Media African office in Tigervalley (RSA), offers full details, includes transmitting site and expresses excuses for the delay in answering, due to e-mail reception troubles (that’s the way the report was submitted, shortly after the reception date). The envelope contained also a desk calendar and a key strap. I really enjoyed getting this confirmation, for at least a couple reasons. First is the fact that, as I already told previously, stations in tropical bands are becoming rare, especially from Africa (India and Asia carry the highest number of broadcasts on that frequency range nowadays). Second is related to a statement in the letter (that you can view entirely here): “Our aim is to bring a little hope & joy into the lives of the young people of Africa. You may not be aware of this, but there are more radios per capita in Africa than there are water taps in people’s homes”. Someone would us believe that radio is past. We well know, as people involved in broadcasting in critical areas of the world do, that it’s future!
